About the Symposium

We welcome you all to the “Galen Science Days-2026: New Horizons in Longevity Research” symposium which will be held on September 4-5, 2026, in Izmir,Türkiye.

Estimates of the heritability of human lifespan vary substantially across populations and analytical methods. Longevity reflects complex interactions among genetic, environmental, behavioural, social and stochastic factors. This highlights the fact that healthy aging is a cultivated outcome rather than a purely genetic inheritance. In this aspect, a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying healthy aging requires an integrative approach that combines genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. Advancing our understanding of these mechanisms requires an integrative framework that captures the complex crosstalk between genes and environment- a prerequisite for developing sustainable innovations in preventive medicine and long-term health management.

The 3rd Galen Science Days Symposium, organized by İzmir Tınaztepe University Galen Research Center on September 4-5, 2026, aims to foster discussion on current scientific advances in the field under the theme of “New Horizons in Longevity Research”.The symposium will emphasise approaches focused not only on extending lifespan but also increasing healthspan, while addressing mechanisms and strategies for preservation of health alongside disease-oriented perspectives by expert-led discussions. In this context, the symposium will gather international and leading scientists in the field and it is expected to host more than 300 participants, including researchers, clinicians, physiotherapists, dietitians, industry partners and students.

This symposium is dedicated to the fundamental biological mechanisms of aging, including chronic inflammation, cellular senescence, mitochondrial dysfunction, genetic and epigenetic alterations and stem cell exhaustion. The agenda focuses on translating these mechanisms into practice through the evaluation of validated biomarkers and evidence-based interventions targeting mechanisms associated with aging and healthspan.

As part of the program, the symposium will feature invited lecturers, young investigator presentations, oral and poster sessions, as well as forums and interactive discussions highlighting lifestyle determinants such as exercise and nutrition and their pivotal role in enhancing public health and longevity.
